Porcelain tableware HS Code description
Porcelain tableware harmonized system code
Product Overview Porcelain tableware classified under HS Code 691110 encompasses a range of ceramic products specifically manufactured from high-quality kaolin clay, subjected to high-temperature firing processes typically above 1200°C to achieve vitrification and translucency. This category includes items such as plates, cups, saucers, bowls, and serving dishes characterized by their fine, non-porous, and durable surface finish. The products exhibit superior mechanical strength, resistance to thermal shock, and chemical inertness, making them suitable for repeated use in diverse environments. Within the HS 691110 classification, subcategories differentiate between hand-decorated and undecorated porcelain tableware, as well as variations in size and design complexity. Commercially, these products serve essential functions in the food service sector, hospitality industry, retail outlets, and institutional catering operations, offering hygienic and aesthetically appealing solutions for food presentation and consumption. Their market positioning is defined by compliance with stringent quality controls, ensuring consistent dimensional accuracy, color stability, and resistance to chipping, thereby providing importers and end-users with reliable, standardized tableware for international distribution. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full HS Code 691110 is structured hierarchically as follows: Chapter 69 (Ceramic products), Heading 11 (Porcelain or china tableware), and Subheading 00 (Tableware). This precise classification is assigned due to the product’s composition—porcelain defined by kaolin content and firing methodology—and its intended use as tableware. The classification aligns with the Harmonized System nomenclature, facilitating uniform global trade identification. Trade considerations for HS 691110 porcelain tableware include specialized packaging—typically cushioned cartons with compartmentalized inserts—to prevent mechanical damage during transit. Preservation methods focus on maintaining product integrity against moisture and abrasion, often employing sealed, moisture-resistant wrapping. Shipping requirements adhere to international standards, including compliance with WTO regulations and customs documentation protocols, ensuring smooth cross-border movement. Quality standards conform to ISO 6486 (testing for release of lead and cadmium) and other relevant food safety certifications, guaranteeing non-toxicity and durability. These specifications support customs brokers and trade compliance officers in accurate tariff application, risk assessment, and regulatory adherence during import/export processes.
