Tea powder HS Code description

Tea powder harmonized system code

Product Overview Tea powder classified under HS Code 210120 refers to finely ground tea leaves intended primarily for infusion or incorporation into consumable products. This product comprises processed Camellia sinensis leaves, which are dried, pulverized, and sifted to achieve a uniform particle size typically ranging from 100 to 300 microns. The powder exhibits key quality attributes such as consistent moisture content below 5%, absence of foreign matter, and preservation of essential polyphenols and aromatic compounds. Under the 210120 classification, subcategories include green tea powder, black tea powder, and specialty blends differentiated by oxidation levels and processing techniques. Commercially, tea powder is widely utilized in retail packaging, foodservice formulations such as ready-to-drink beverages, bakery applications, and nutraceutical products. Its fine particulate form facilitates rapid infusion and broadens its application scope beyond conventional loose leaf tea. Positioned as a standardized ingredient with traceable quality metrics, tea powder under HS 210120 offers importers and exporters a reliable commodity that aligns with global quality protocols and consumer safety standards, enhancing its competitive appeal in international markets. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The full HS Code for tea powder is 210120, structured as follows: Chapter 21 (Miscellaneous Edible Preparations), Heading 2101 (Extracts, Essences and Concentrates), and Subheading 210120 (Powdered tea). This classification is based on the product’s processed form—powdered rather than whole or cut leaf—and its intended use as a consumable ingredient rather than raw agricultural material. Compliance with this HS code requires adherence to specific trade documentation reflecting the product’s processed state. Packaging typically involves moisture-resistant, food-grade laminated pouches or bulk bags ranging from 1 kg to 25 kg, designed to maintain product integrity during transit. Preservation methods include vacuum sealing or modified atmosphere packaging to inhibit oxidation and microbial contamination. Shipping conditions mandate controlled humidity and temperature environments to sustain product stability. Quality standards conform to international guidelines such as ISO 3720 for tea and Codex Alimentarius norms, ensuring parameters like moisture content, particle size distribution, and contaminant limits meet regulatory requirements. This detailed classification and trade specification framework supports efficient customs clearance, compliance with WTO agreements, and seamless international trade operations for tea powder under HS Code 210120.
