Upholstery fabric HS Code description

Upholstery fabric harmonized system code

Product Overview Upholstery Fabric under HS Code 5801 refers to woven textiles specifically designed for covering furniture, including sofas, chairs, and other seating arrangements. These fabrics are characterized by their durability, resistance to wear and tear, and aesthetic appeal. The key specifications include texture, weight (measured in GSM or grams per square meter), color fastness, and abrasion resistance. Product classifications under HS Code 5801 are further divided into various subcategories, depending on the type of yarn used (cotton, polyester, rayon, etc.), weaving technique (jacquard, damask, etc.), and the finish (dyed, printed, etc.). The primary commercial applications include interior design, furniture manufacturing, and hospitality industries. Upholstery Fabric under HS Code 5801 offers a significant value proposition in terms of enhancing the look and longevity of furniture, providing a competitive edge over other less durable materials. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The complete HS Code structure for Upholstery Fabric is 5801.3X where the last two digits represent specific subcategories. The reasoning behind this classification lies in the fact that these materials are woven textiles designed for upholstery purposes. Trade considerations include packaging in rolls or bolts to maintain the integrity of the fabrics and minimize damage during transit. Preservation methods include the use of moisture-resistant wrapping to prevent mold or mildew. Shipping requirements largely depend on the volume of the consignment and distance to be covered, but typically involve secure packaging and climate-controlled transportation. Quality standards for Upholstery Fabric under HS Code 5801 are set by various international bodies such as ISO, ASTM, and AATCC. These standards focus on aspects like colorfastness, abrasion resistance, flammability, and toxicity. All trade documentation should adhere to WTO and customs regulations, and consistently use the correct HS Code for accurate classification and compliance.
