Vacuum flask HS Code description

Vacuum flask harmonized system code

Product Overview A vacuum flask, classified under HS Code 961700, is a double-walled container designed to maintain the temperature of its contents by minimizing heat transfer through conduction, convection, and radiation. Typically constructed from stainless steel, glass, or durable plastic, these flasks feature an inner vessel enclosed by an outer shell with a vacuum-sealed space in between, significantly enhancing thermal insulation. Physical specifications vary but commonly include capacities ranging from 250 ml to 2 liters, with leak-proof, screw or snap-on lids to ensure secure containment. The product undergoes precision manufacturing processes such as vacuum sealing, quality welding, and rigorous leak and thermal retention testing to meet high durability and safety standards. Under HS Code 961700, vacuum flasks are subdivided into categories based on material composition, capacity, and intended use, encompassing stainless steel models, glass-lined variants, and insulated beverage containers. Commercially, these flasks serve critical functions across food service sectors, retail markets, and processing industries by enabling safe, long-term storage and transport of hot or cold liquids. Their value proposition lies in reliable thermal performance, robust construction, and compliance with international safety regulations, positioning them as essential equipment in global supply chains for temperature-sensitive goods. HS Code Classification & Trade Specifications The vacuum flask is classified under the full 6-digit HS Code 961700 within the Harmonized System framework: Chapter 96 (Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles), Heading 17 (Vacuum Flasks and Other Vacuum Vessels), and Subheading 00 (Vacuum Flasks). This classification is predicated on the flask’s primary function as a vacuum-insulated container designed to reduce heat transfer. The classification aligns with WTO guidelines and customs standards, facilitating uniform tariff application and trade data accuracy. Trade considerations include packaging in sturdy, impact-resistant cartons with moisture barriers to prevent contamination and damage during transit. Preservation methods focus on protecting the vacuum integrity and physical finish, often employing desiccants and anti-corrosion treatments for metal components. Shipping requirements typically mandate compliance with international standards for hazardous materials if flasks contain adhesives or lubricants. Quality standards adhere to ISO 9001 manufacturing protocols and specific thermal retention benchmarks verified through standardized laboratory testing. This precise classification and detailed trade documentation ensure seamless customs clearance and support compliance with global import/export regulations.
