Belt HS Code description
Belt harmonized system code
Product Overview Belt, classified under HTS 4203.30, is defined as a strip or band of leather or composition leather manufactured principally as an article of apparel or clothing accessory for supporting garments or as a wearable accessory, with or without metal or plastic buckles and fittings. Key characteristics include typical widths of 20–50 mm (dress 20–35 mm; casual 35–50 mm), thickness 2–5 mm, length range 700–1,400 mm and unit mass commonly 50–250 g depending on fittings; materials comprise full‑grain, corrected‑grain or split leather, PU/PVC composition leathers, and laminated/textile‑backed constructions. Processing levels include tanning, dyeing, edge finishing, stitching, reinforcement/lining and attachment of buckles by rivet, solder or screw. Product classifications within 4203.30 are commonly subdivided by primary material and construction: belts of leather; belts of composition leather (PU/PVC); belts with metal buckles/fastenings; and belts with textile components or reinforced linings. Commercial applications cover retail and wholesale apparel, uniform supply, component use in leather goods manufacturing, and institutional procurement for hospitality and service uniforms. HTS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HTS 6‑digit: 420330 (commonly presented as 4203.30) — hierarchical breakdown: Chapter 42 (Articles of leather), Heading 4203 (Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, of leather or of composition leather), Subheading 4203.30 (Belts). Classification rationale: items whose principal material and function are leather or composition leather clothing accessories are classifiable in 4203.30; attached metal or plastic buckles are treated as accessories and do not change classification unless a non‑leather component predominates by weight or function. Trade considerations: provide explicit material composition, unit measurements (length, width, thickness, net weight), country of origin and HTS on commercial invoice and entry. Common packaging: individual polybags with silica desiccant, 10–50 units per corrugated carton (gross weight typically ≤30 kg), palletized to ISPM 15 requirements. Preservation and shipping: humidity control (recommended RH <65%), VCI protection or oil film for buckle corrosion prevention, mold inhibitors for leather. Quality standards/tests frequently referenced: tensile strength (ISO 3376), color fastness (ISO 105 series), flexing/endurance and buckle corrosion resistance (ASTM B117) to support conformity and customs valuation.
