Jewelry HS Code description
Jewelry harmonized system code
Product Overview Jewelry under HTS 7113.19 is defined as finished or semi‑finished articles of personal adornment made of, or clad with, precious metal (gold, silver, platinum-group metals) that are not elsewhere specified in other 7113 subheadings. Key characteristics include composition (karat or millesimal fineness), gross and net weights (expressed in grams), dimensional attributes (length, diameter, gauge), gemstone metrics (carat weight, cut grade where applicable), and processing level (cast, fabricated, soldered, set, electroplated/vermeil, rolled‑gold plate). Quality attributes commonly documented are millesimal fineness (e.g., 750 = 18K), plating thickness in micrometers (µm), and gem certification references (GIA/IGI reports). Typical product classifications under 7113.19 cover “other” articles and parts: necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, pendants, cufflinks, tie pins, rings and component parts (clasps, settings, mountings) that are of precious metal or metal‑clad. Commercial applications include retail jewelry, repair/assembly in jewelry manufacture, trade show consignments, and use as inputs for limited processing (stone setting, resizing) in industrial workshops and service centers. HTS Code Classification & Trade Specifications Full 6‑digit HS structure: Chapter 71 (71: Pearls, precious stones, precious metals, and articles thereof); Heading 7113 (Articles of jewellery and parts thereof, of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metal); Subheading 711319 (7113.19 – other articles of jewellery and parts thereof of precious metal or of metal clad). Classification rationale: items composed primarily of, or clad with, precious metal for personal adornment and not specifically enumerated elsewhere in 7113 are captured under 7113.19; primary determinants are material composition, form (finished article vs. scrap), and intended use. Trade considerations for import/export include secure inner packaging (individual jewelry boxes, anti‑tarnish pouches, silica gel), sealed polybags, master cartons, and palletization with security seals; temperature and humidity control to prevent tarnish; insured and bonded carriage for high‑value consignments. Required documentation for customs clearance typically includes commercial invoice (material composition, fineness, net weight, unit value), packing list, bill of lading/air waybill, country of origin marking/hallmarks, applicable gemstone certificates, and CBP entry documentation. Quality standards referenced are millesimal fineness marks, karat stamps, and accepted gem lab reports; measurable attributes (g, ct, µm, fineness) should be provided to support tariff classification and valuation.
