Led strip lights HS Code description

Led strip lights harmonized system code

Product Overview LED strip lights under HTS 9405.49 are finished linear lighting fittings comprising flexible printed circuit boards (FPC) populated with surface‑mount LEDs, resistors, and associated passive components, supplied as reels, pre‑assembled lengths or cut‑to‑length modules with connectors. Key characteristics include nominal operating voltages (commonly 12 VDC, 24 VDC, or mains‑integrated), power consumption (typical 4–24 W/m), luminous flux (≈200–2,400 lm/m depending on LED density and binning), LED density (30–120 LEDs/m), correlated color temperature (2,700–6,500 K), CRI (≥80, often ≥90), IP rating variants (IP20/IP65/IP67), and rated lifetime (L70 ≥25,000–50,000 hours). Processing levels range from bare FPC reels to silicone‑encapsulated, adhesive‑backed finished luminaires with integrated drivers and control electronics. Subcategories commonly referenced in trade documentation under 9405.49 include single‑color, tunable white, RGB/RGBW, addressable (individually controllable) and enclosed waterproof variants. Commercial applications include architectural cove and accent lighting, retail/display illumination, signage and backlighting, hospitality and exhibition lighting, and low‑voltage industrial task lighting; typical trade specs include UL/ETL‑NRTL markings, RoHS compliance and optional control interfaces (DMX, DALI, Wi‑Fi). HTS Code Classification & Trade Specifications HTS 6‑digit structure: Chapter 94 (Furniture; bedding; lamps and lighting fittings), Heading 9405 (Lamps and lighting fittings including searchlights and spotlights and parts thereof), Subheading 9405.49 (other lamps and lighting fittings with permanently fixed light sources). Classification rationale: flexible LED strip assemblies supplied as finished fittings with permanently fixed light sources and associated control/driver electronics meet the definition of lighting fittings rather than mere parts, supporting classification under 9405.49 for U.S. customs. Trade considerations for duty assessment and entry documents include packaging (antistatic reels, moisture‑barrier bags with desiccant, labelled cartons on pallets), preservation (ESD protection, humidity indicator cards), and shipping (declare electronic control gear; if lithium batteries/cells are included, comply with IATA/IMDG dangerous‑goods regulations). Quality standards and test reports commonly accompanying shipments: IEC 60598, IEC 62031/TS 62717, LM‑79/LM‑80 photometric and electrical data, UL/ETL listings, RoHS/REACH declarations, documented IP rating, measured lm/W, CRI and L70 lifetime for technical clearance and valuation.
