Ghana's food import market has seen a steady decline in total value, dropping from $2.86 billion in 2021 to $1.98 billion in 2023.
While import quantities peaked in 2022 at over 939 million units, the 2023 data reveals a contraction in both volume and value, indicating a significant shift in trade activity.

In 2023, Vietnam emerged as the leading exporter to Ghana with a trade value of $238.7 million.
Burkina Faso followed closely at $192.2 million. Other key suppliers include Canada, Brazil, and China, showcasing a diverse supply chain spanning Asia, Africa, and North America.

Russia and Burkina Faso are the most dynamic partners, showing remarkable growth rates of 1.80 and 0.95 respectively.
In contrast, established suppliers like Canada and Brazil have seen slight declines in growth, suggesting that emerging markets are capturing a larger share of Ghana's import requirements.

Cereal grains represent the most significant import category, valued at $247.8 million, followed by ir 64 rice at $201 million.
Other high-value commodities include oil seeds and refined sugar, which remain critical staples within Ghana's food import profile for 2023.
