Tanzania Agricultural Exports 2026 Market Overview & Trends

Tanzania's export value saw a significant surge in 2024, reaching over $1.4 billion. This follows a period of fluctuation between 2020 and 2023. The total quantity also peaked in 2024 at 2.1 billion units, indicating a robust recovery and expansion in trade volume compared to the previous four years.

India remains the primary destination for exports, accounting for $579.3 million in 2024. Vietnam follows as a key secondary market at $289 million. Regional partners Uganda and Kenya also show strong import values, highlighting Tanzania's strategic trade position within both Asian and African markets.

Zambia is the fastest-growing emerging market with a remarkable 74.19% growth rate. While established markets like India and Vietnam maintain high volumes, their growth rates are more modest. Pakistan also shows healthy expansion at nearly 8%, signaling diversifying trade opportunities across different regions.

Raw cashew nuts dominate the export portfolio, contributing $564.6 million in 2024. Pigeon peas and IR 64 rice are also major contributors, valued at $235.3 million and $196.2 million respectively. This data underscores the high economic importance of these specific agricultural commodities to Tanzania's trade balance.
